Voting is a given right that any citizen of a true democracy has the privilege to possess.

At ZeroDivide, we believe strongly in the importance of voter participation in the political process. As members of a democracy, we have an opportunity to participate in an historic election as November 4 approaches. Experts predict voter turnout will be the highest in decades, dwarfing previous presidential elections.

In California alone, a record 17.3 million voters are registered as reported by Secretary of State Debra Bowen. Bowen had predicted a record number, but the announcement marked the official pre-election tally from her office.

Through the use of technology, we are witnessing our community members become more engaged and amplify their voices to be heard and to make a difference in the 2008 election. On Election Day, Radio Bilingüe Internet will be offering a special platform to encourage citizens to become "barefoot" reporters by capturing news events with their mobile-camera phones and get them instantly uploaded via text message on the public radio network's website.

This new feature is part of multi-media coverage of Radio Bilingüe's Hacia el Voto 2008 series on Election Day. The radio and online series also includes a pre-Election Day special and an extended report the day after the election.

Hacia el Voto 2008 is a production of Radio Bilingüe, the National Latino Public Radio Network. With main offices in Fresno and San Francisco, Radio Bilingüe provides around-the-clock radio programming through six full-power FM radio stations in California. Through Satélite Radio Bilingüe, the network expanded its reach to more than 100 affiliates throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, and its coverage further extends worldwide via its live web streaming available at www.radiobilingue.org
