Pac-Man Meets the Minutemen: Video Games by Los Angeles Latino Youth
By Katynka Z. Martinez - Assistant Professor of Latina/Latino Studies at San Francisco State University

As someone who came of age in the mid-1980s, I am quite familiar with Pac-Man. The first time I played the game was at a neighborhood arcade called the Electric Planet. I still remember the song “Pac-Man Fever,” and the jingle that plays when Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man meet continues to hold a special place in my heart.

Youth Media Goes Mobile

By Elisabeth Soep - Senior Producer and Research Director of Youth Radio.

At Youth Radio, an afterschool program and youth-driven production company in Oakland, California, if a student takes out a cell phone during class, she’ll get in trouble. Inappropriate cell phone use even serves as a major plot-point in a mock fight peer educators will sometimes stage in class to teach students how to write a good story lede. Migrant Youth and their Families - A Reel Grrls Production

Reel Grrls partnered with La Venture, Middle School in Mt. Vernon to coordinate a home stay program for five migrant youth to participate in our Spring Break Documentary Arts program. Their strong short documentary shows their perspectives and experiences as young migrant girls living in America. The girls and their families attended our Spring Showcase, and over 140 people viewed the film.
