Hip Hop-A New Way

As a program officer at ZeroDivide, I was excited to be given the opportunity to explore creative new ways that encourage positive social change for low income, youth of color in California.

Hip Hop and Social Justice

Hip Hop is an international phenomena that began as a social justice movement in Harlem in the 1970s. While the commercial aspects of Hip Hop more recognized, there is a strong connection to social justice issues among the Hip Hop community, particularly among youth of color.  In the new report Hip Hop and Social Justice Initiative, ZeroDivide shares our experience working with this community and supporting their growth and ability to impact positive social change.

The Hip Hop and Social Justice Initiative

ZeroDivide elected to merge the powerful, popular phenomenon of Hip Hop and the connective thread of information technology to create a new philanthropic model. The report documents the evolution of ZeroDivide's Hip Hop and Social Justice Initiative.

Hip Hop Initiative

Young voter participation has increased dramatically in over a decade. Much of the voter increase can be attributed to efforts on the part of young activists and organizers to galvanize the youth vote using the power and influence of hip hop, the pop youth culture of our time.

As a form of pop culture, hip hop has the potential to empower, educate, and unite people of all races.
