Social Enterprise in the Bay Area 2010

There is a growing interest in social enterprise as a strategy for addressing some of the world's most pressing problems with market-based solutions.

At an SEA-SF Chapter sponsored event, held January 28 in San Francisco, leaders of 3 Bay Area organizations - Rubicon, New Door Ventures and Fuzion share their experiences with social enterprise.

The session was facilitated by Jason Trimiew, REDF's Director of Fund and Business development.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski visited San Francisco recently as part of a “listening tour” about best practices in how to use and expand access to broadband.

ZFellow Michael McCarthy, a member of the city of San Francisco’s Department of Technology, played a key role in hosting the event.

The FCC has been charged by congress to release a national broadband plan by February 2010.

Ballard said Wednesday that although the joint deal with Google and Earthlink is now history, the city would regroup and issue a second round of proposals from interested vendors. Officials hope Google, which "has been a valuable partner throughout all this," will want to participate, he said.
