I don't think I'd ever seen the Empire State Building look quite so luminous. Driving into Manhattan in the wee hours of Monday morning, the top floors and spire of what a friend's daughter used to mistakenly call "The Entire State Building" did indeed seem to embody a statewide celebratory mood. Rainbow-hued lights covered the top of the building, paying homage to a double celebration: the New York State legislature's historic passage of same-sex marraige equality, and the annual New York City Pride celebration this past weekend.
