Did You Hear the Silence Today?

Did you hear the silence today?  It was defeaning.   And it was very, very important.

Today marked the 15th annual "National Day of Silence," in which hundreds of thousands of students in schools and colleges across the country took part in a show of solidarity for their LGBT classmates.  The first National Day of Silence took place at the University of Virginia in 1996, as an effort by UVA students to demonstrate how their LGBT peers were being "silenced" about their sexual orientation by the pervasive homophobic environment on campus.  Read more about Did You Hear the Silence Today?
