Smartphone Adoption and Usage

In its first standalone measure of smartphone ownership, the Pew Internet Project finds that one third of American adults – 35% – own smartphones.

Mobile phones are a main source of internet access for one-quarter of the smartphone population. The Project’s May survey found that 83% of US adults have a cell phone of some kind, and that 42% of them own a smartphone. That translates into 35% of all adults.

Broadband Access in San Francisco

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski attended a gathering in San Francisco to discuss broadband issues and policies with community leaders.

The FCC has been charged by congress to release a national broadband plan by February 2010.

The Chairman’s visit to San Francisco was part of a “listening tour” about best practices in how to use and expand access to broadband.
