Information and Communications Technology provides powerful new tools to enhance the voice of underserved communities and increase their civic participation. Cell phones, the internet, and digital video provide ways to quickly mobilize communities and to send information to a wide audience. They provide the ability to create video ads, messages and stories that can be widely distributed over the internet with out the high cost of traditional broadcasting. We have seen the success of utilizing these e-advocacy tools in many mainstream organizations. However, as these technologies are more available and affordable, more grassroots organizations and underserved communities have access to these powerful tools.
The Community Technology Foundation of California is dedicated to enhancing community empowerment and civic engagement within underserved communities. We are supporting community efforts to utilize new information and communications technology tools in these communities to amplify their voices in policy and civic arenas.
