Project Announcement: Mobile for Impact

Mobile for Impact

While still an emerging field, mobile technology for social good has already demonstrated potential in a range of areas, from health and wellness to civic engagement, education and social service delivery.

With funding provided by the Vodafone Foundation, ZeroDivide is launching a research project to identify key lessons learned from pioneering applications of mobile for social impact and to broadly share these lessons in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. This project, Mobile for Impact, aims to advance the knowledge base and support increased funding for applied research and development in social mobile technology.

The applied research efforts of this project will result in development of three concise guides for leaders in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, focusing on these key topics:

  1. Developing mobile apps for the social sector

  2. Launching texting programs for social impact

  3. Using mobile geolocation features for conducting community participatory research and organizing

These guides will be action-oriented and will provide practical information and guidance to public- and nonprofit-sector leaders to support research-based decisions about funding and use of mobile in social interventions. The guides will feature instructions for mobile intervention planning and one or more case studies of leading-edge initiatives in the U.S. that can inform new efforts and highlight considerations for success.

Prior to the publication of the guides, ZeroDivide will be engaging community practitioners, developers, industry representatives and policymakers in an ongoing dialogue to identify innovations and best practices. After publication, ZeroDivide will widely disseminate learnings through digital and social media, seeking to reach the various stakeholders involved in funding, developing and launching social mobile strategies.
