In Memory of Kevin Weston
“Kevin was someone who never took advice for granted, whether he was seeking it or giving it,” said Tessie Guillermo, ZeroDivide’s president and CEO. “We were one of the first foundations to fund Yo! Youth Outlook during its startup. Kevin’s grasp of the power of the digital media revolution and its role in transforming young people’s lives convinced us it was the right thing to do.”
Kevin Weston, a Bay Area new media journalist and community activist, passed away on Sunday. Kevin previously served as the editor in chief for Yo! Youth Outlook, an award-winning literary journal by Bay Area youth.
Kevin was a skilled journalist and a believer in inclusive youth media. He mentored a generation of aspiring young journalists and encouraged young people to speak their truth. Kevin was a bold, dedicated and deeply talented writer, and his legacy lives on through innovative reporting and the many lives he touched.
More reflections on Kevin’s impact and his legacy can be read at New America Media and Youth Radio. The ZeroDivide team’s thoughts and prayers are with Kevin’s family and his many friends and colleagues.
