ZeroDivide's Hip hop Initiative invests in organizations that transform young Hip hop consumers into promising producers, distributors, and critics with a social change focus. These programs demonstrate the conscious use of Hip hop as a multimedia communications vehicle that empowers, educates and unites. Our grantees are using digital media and popular culture to alter the economic, political and social landscapes of their communities.
In 2005/2006, Rap Sessions, the first national tour of its kind, brought town hall-style meetings focused on race and Hip-hop to 15 cities across the country. By touring the nation with leading Hip-hop activists, artists and thinkers, Rap Sessions helped jumpstart crucial local debate and connect local hip-hop communities to national Hip-hop arts/activists networks.

Movement Strategy Center (MSC) was created to actively support movements that aim to increase youth and adult participation in social justice issues. MSC uses a variety of tools to achieve its objectives: collective visioning and mapping, formal and informal collaborations among organizations and joint strategies to develop stronger and more effective movements.

The DJ Project, a youth focused venture of Horizons Unlimited, is an arts and entrepreneurship youth program grounded in Hip-hop culture. The DJ Project brings culturally relevant educational and technology training opportunities to San Francisco Bay Area youth. The DJ Project uses music to nurture the creative spirit of disconnected youth. It imparts credible, realistic, and practical information about the entertainment industry and provides training in emerging digital technologies.
