The Back Story
The vision of Youth Together is to reclaim public education. Youth Together seeks to create public educational systems that are just, community based, supportive and people centric. The organization aims to empower, mobilize, and build self-determination among students and their communities.
Youth Together decided to develop several short stories that captured their organizational history. The organization created three stories that different aspects of their work that have been critical to the organization’s success. These stories focus on individual student development, multiracial unity and education organizing.
Outcomes
Youth Together screened these pieces at their 10-year anniversary event and at an open house for parents. The organization plans to create two additional stories which will be led by students. One story will deal with privatization of public education and the other will document the differences between well-funded and poorly funded schools. These stories will be used to help educate students and adults about upcoming campaigns.
