Through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation challenge, we answered the question: how can you help people make better decisions with their health insurance?
We focused on the fact that most English Language Learners (ELL) in low income communities find it challenging to navigate the health insurance system, especially with the implementation of ACA (Affordable Care Act).
How can we create a simple and easy to use interface for monolingual users to enroll in ACA?
We conducted user research, including interviews and surveys to develop a conceptual prototype placed at a Google Health & Wellness hackathon. We received the validation we needed to move into product development.
We ended up with a working prototype web app called Health Plan for You. We also uncovered from our research that at the time of product development, there were no other comparable products in the market targeting ELL communities for enrolling them into ACA with an approach as simple as ours.
