At the heart of ZeroDivide’s values lies our belief in the power of civic engagement and in amplifying the voices of members of our communities.
We are building and strengthening the capacity of disadvantaged communities to influence public policy and business practices. The importance of advocacy cannot be underestimated especially when we have the ability to employ the power of technology for social good. Our investments allow our grantees to accelerate and strengthen their community organizing and sustainability efforts. Not only do we provide the training required to establish a core set of tools for them to use but we ensure they have the ability to put their learning into practice.
To accomplish our goals, we work with organizations like Aspiration to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations to use technology for social good. Aspiration convenes a variety of conferences and seminars worldwide and is a recognized leader in the nonprofit technology assistance providers (NTAP) community. Together we established a collaborative cohort of organizations working to build e-advocacy capacity, individually and collectively, and train them to apply emerging technologies to their advocacy and organizing efforts.
These organizations are:
Californians for Justice Education Fund
To support the technology and training component of Californians for Justice Education Fund's Campaign for Educational Equity, which aims to create a statewide alliance of youth and parent organizations (whose constituencies are low-income, immigrant, and communities of color) advocating together for public education reform.
California Pan-Ethnic Health Network
To develop and implement a Multicultural Health Web Portal that will strengthen advocacy efforts for improving the health of low-income communities of color by providing opportunities for constituents and stakeholders to share information and resources and influence public policies impacting their communities.
Death Penalty Focus
To support Death Penalty Focus’s (DPF) objective to use technology to increase their membership base and more efficiently develop their programming and public education capabilities. In creating tools to increase participation, track rates and provide fresh content, they intend to increase web traffic as well as keep visitors up-to-date on important legislative developments. DPF intends to use a more sophisticated web presence to reach socially conscious youth activists to encourage long-term involvement.
Filipinos for Affirmative Action
To support the Filipino Civic Engagement Project, that will strengthen the technology infrastructure for community research and analysis, organizing and coalition building, and voter education and mobilization. FAA’s goal is to build broad-based support within the Filipino community for progressive social change and to educate voters of the importance of civic engagement.
