Today the MacArthur Foundation announced that BAVC – the Bay Area Video Coalition - is one of 11 recipients of their annual Award for Creative and Effective Organizations.  The San Francisco-based nonprofit will receive $1 million to continue their work at the intersection of film, digital media, and technology to help artists and film producers create civic-minded media projects that reach broad audiences and that educate and inspire action.

BAVC continues to generate groundbreaking programs that demonstrate the role media and technology can play in leveraging community voices for lasting social change.  Their “Producers’ Institute” is a terrific example of this type of innovation. Be sure to check out one of the projects generated at this year’s Institute, “The Revolutionary Optimists”.

As a funder of BAVC since 2006, ZeroDivide is especially pleased to see the organization receive this national recognition – and this deserved financial support for their work.  In 2008, when BAVC launched the Digital Storytelling Institute, we were right there with them to fund works that highlight community voices while strengthening their business model and sustainability plans.   During the recent economic meltdown, BAVC and ZD stayed the course, together. We are honored and proud to have played a part in supporting this amazing organization.

WAY TO GO KEN AND THE STAFF AT BAVC!
