Bringing people together was the theme of the recent launch of a community wireless network in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. Developed by the Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) with assistance from CTFC, the network provides wi-fi Internet access to the neighborhood and helps connect people to a community website which will contain local news, a business directory, a calendar of events etc... The project is led by Davis Park a CTFC ZeroDivide Fellow.

Many city officials and community members were present for the wire-cutting ceremony to launch the wi-fi network, Including LA Councilmember Jan Perry, who stated "It is only fitting that a dynamic, multi-generational community like Little Tokyo embrace Wi-Fi technology. Through this partnership we are connecting seniors, young people, adults and visitors to the many possibilities that the Internet has to offer."

Little Tokyo Unplugged Wire-Cutting Ceremony

At the ceremony it was wonderful to see seniors, young people, community leaders, community technology advocates, business leaders and city officials celebrating the opportunities this wi-fi network will bring to this LA neighborhood. As the City of LA begins to forumlate its plans to create a municipal wireless system they should hold this model up as demonstration of what is possible for all of LA, and fully involve LTSC -- a pioneer in bringing technology access to downtown LA!

Wow!!!! This is exciting news for our community..... I would like to know how the community is being informed about this invaluable wireless connection? Who will be providing training for many of the constituents who are curious, excited to be connected, but not sure of what this means or without a computer... I think it would be beneficial to asses the various populations that are utilizing this great resource and continue to strengthen the gaps so that all populations within that area get connected and remain connected.

The Community Technology Foundation continues to be innovative and an excellent leader, beyond California..... Your commitment to the many who are disconnected and many times feel alone in the process of understanding technology is Commendable! Congratulations to everyone who is making history, paz y amor, Irma Resendez

Way to go Davis and team!

Way to go Senor Park! As usual you are on the cutting edge - get it? (in this case cutting wires!)

Seriously, man, well done and bravo!!! It's all about the connections and you and Little Tokyo are continuously making them easier and more relevant in a world that needs to be better connected.

Hats off!
