ZeroDivide Roundup August 16 edition

Eugene Chan

Sorry for the long silence on the blog, but things have definitely been busy here ZeroDivide HQ.

  • We moved offices! But our URL didn’t change and that’s the important thing, right?
  • CTF friend and Hip hop Initiative advisory member, Bakari Kitwana, appeared on the O’Reilly Factor on a session to debate the participation of hip hop artist Nas at a concert at Virginia Tech.

That’s all for now. Expect more updates now that we are settling in.

Eugene:

As I mentioned in the article Meraki’s networks are very easy to setup and to manage.

This week I installed a Meraki network at a 7 story SRO in the Tenderloin. The only challenge was getting Ethernet cable from the 2nd floor where the DSL is to the 4th and 6th floors. Once that was done it took about 3 hours to install the Merakis. I installed 3 outdoor Meraki units that acted as gateways (on the 2nd, 4th and 6th floors). Each of them received power over Ethernet which allowed me to "stick" them on the wall on those 3 floors.

I then installed 11 meraki wall plugs in the hallways. These units plug directly into an electrical outlet and repeat the signal sent from the closet gateway or wall plug. The wall plugs were developed by Net Equality in Portland who are a reseller of Meraki’s

You should get a commission from them!

The wall plugs are networking over powerlines? That's cool.
