MySpace Unveils Presidential Hopeful Site

Eugene Chan

Infoworld is reporting that MySpace just unveiled a MySpace focusing on Presidential candidates today.

The idea seems to make sense, but the execution is lacking. Why focus on the Presidential candidates?

It really should be a platform for social networking among local races—-the teeny tiny ones that you otherwise wouldn’t hear about.

Here’s the money quote:

As of Monday afternoon, “friends” were already on board various candidate sites. For instance, Romney, McCain and Clinton each had more than 1,000 MySpace friends, while Obama had more than 68,000. Paul, also running for president, had about 350 friends. Giuliani’s profile was set to “private” and so it could not be publicly seen.

It seems like Senator Obama is the only one who understands what MySpace is about.
